Hormone Health:  From Hormone Hell To Hormone Well

For both women and men, a proper hormone balance is essential to quality of life, health and happiness. Unfortunately, hormone production begins to shift with age, in women in their early to mid-30’s and, for men, in their early 40’s.  The result is a hormonal imbalance at the cellular level that causes many unpleasant, as well as many potentially harmful, side effects.  Symptoms of hormone imbalance may include commonly recognized hot flashes, night sweats and irregular bleeding. Abdominal weight gain, headaches/migraines, fatigue, sleep disturbances/insomnia, mood swings, depression, worsened PMS, low libido, fatigue and mind fog are also symptoms of hormone imbalance.  In addition, medical studies link a specific type of hormone imbalance called “estrogen dominance” to significant health risks such as breast, uterine and prostate cancers, heart attack, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Randolph, as well as all of our practice’s highly trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants, are highly skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of hormone imbalances.  We offer bio-identical hormone replacement as a preferred option for re-establishing the body’s optimal hormonal equilibrium.  Unlike pharmaceutically manufactured synthetic hormones (such as Premarin or Prempro) whose molecular structure has been chemically altered to be different from those hormones produced by the ovaries and testes, bio-identical hormones have EXACTLY THE SAME MOLECULAR STRUCTURE AS THE HORMONES PRODUCED WITHIN THE HUMAN BODY.  Consequently, when prescribed and administered in physiologic doses, the body’s hormone receptors accept and recognize bio-identical hormones.  The result:  hormone balance is re-established safely and naturally.  The good news:  Our patients tell us that they “finally feel and look like themselves again.”

Male Menopause/Andropause

Male menopause is a very real medical condition. It typically begins in a man's early to mid 40's. In contrast, to women in menopause, when men begin to experience hormonal fluctuations at mid-life, the effect may be more gradual and more subtle. The clinical name for male menopause is "andropause". Unfortunately, while many of the best researchers in medical science recognize andropause as a very real phenomenon, most of the general public and many of their physicians still do not realize that "male menopause" is a reality of aging.

The medical truth is that symptoms such as low vitality, sexual dsyfunction, memory loss, weight gain and depression can signal that the male body is suffering from a decline in male hormone production of androgens, specifically testosterone and DHEA. The decrease typically begins in the late thirties, and by the seventies, a man's blood levels may have dropped by one third to one-half. If at the same time, levels of the female hormone estrogen are too high, more serious health concerns may emerge such as increased risk of cardiovascular diease, bone density loss, a rise in cholesterol and urinary and prostrate disease. In Dr. Randolph's book From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well, he provides a comprehensive clinical explanation of Andropause.

According to a 2001 Harvard Medical School Newsletter on male menopause, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have funded human-trials that, when the results are published, should confirm and extend the medical community's understanding about the role of androgens and the opportunities for supplementation in healthy aging men. The first step towards restoring male hormone balance is to use labwork to diagnose deficiencies and excesses. The findings will provide a hormonal profile that will allow for individualization of hormone replacement therapy. Clinical studies have shown that gradually replacing deificient testosterone and DHEA levels with bio-identical hormone replacement can actually reverse many of the age-related complaints. Furthermore, if a man evidences excess estrogen levels, then treatment should include adding bio-identical progesterone in physiologic doses. The added progesterone serves to eliminate the condition of estrogen dominance, therby decreasing the risk of urinary and prostate problems.

If you are a man suffering from any of these symptoms, we can help!

Burned-out feeling - Low Libido - Abdominal weight gain - Fatigue & Low energy - Depression - Sleep Disorders - Anxiousness/Irritability - Erectile Dysfunction - Prostate Problems - Degenerative Diseases (Diabetes, Cancer, Heart Disease, Osteoporosis)

Gynecology and Gynecological Services

Our practice is committed to holistic approach to female health and wellness. We provide comprehensive gynecologic and gynecologic specialty services for early detection, diagnosis, managment and treatment of conditions and diseases affecting the female genital organs. Abnormal pap smear is managed through procedures such as coloposcopy, biopsy, cryotherapy, laser, LEEP (Loop electro surgical excision procedure) and others. We also perform sonograms in office.

Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery

Urogynecology is subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology dedicated to treating women with pelvic floor disorders such as urinary or fecal incontinence and prolapse (bulging) of the vagina, bladder or uterus.  Dr. Randolph is widely recognized as a specialist in urogynecology procedures.  We perform surgical pelvic reconstruction vaginoplasty such as TVT slings, anterior and posterior repairs and pessary fittings.

In addition, interstitial cystitis is often treated non-invasively in our office via bladder “cocktails” that can repair the bladder lining and significantly reduce pain.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is medical specialty that addresses the unattractive appearance and pain of vein disorders.  The therapy involves injection of a sclerosing solution into the affected veins. When the treatment is performed correctly, “spider” or varicose veins disappear after about six weeks.  A typical sclerotherapy session lasts only 15 to 45 minutes.  The cost for vein treatment varies.  Medicare benefits may apply.

Age Management Medicine

One of the unique features of our practice is how we integrate a focus on lifestyle issues and stressors with an understanding of physiological and bio-medical conditions that can accelerate the aging process. With an emphasis on hormone health, we work with each patient to address any concerns that may be accelerating the aging process.

Intravenous Infusions

Vitamin infused IV therapy  is used to help increase energy, boost immune systems, treat chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and migraines.
